DEADLY CLASHES IN ANGOLA AS FUEL PROTESTS LEAVE FOUR DEAD AND HUNDREDS JAILED

Angola is currently facing violent protests over a fuel price hike, resulting in at least four deaths and hundreds of arrests in Luanda.

The unrest began after the government raised diesel prices by a third to relieve fuel subsidy costs. In response, minibus taxi associations increased fares by up to 50% and went on strike.

Over 500 people have been arrested, and significant vandalism occurred. The national police also reported ongoing pockets of disorder in the capital. Angola has been reducing fuel subsidies since 2023, following previous deadly protests over petrol prices.
