UNITED STATES TARGETS BIRTH TOURISM, OFFENDERS TO BE DENIED VISAS

The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a warning regarding birth tourism, stating that any visa applicant who travels primarily to the United States to give birth to secure citizenship for their child will be denied entry. This warning was shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter) via the official account of the Mission.

The Mission emphasized that consular officers will reject visa applications if they believe the applicant’s main intention is to give birth in the United States


This warning is part of a broader public awareness campaign by the U.S. government aimed at discouraging visa misuse and ensuring compliance with immigration regulations.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO CREATE 2 MILLION JOBS THROUGH AFFORDABLE HOUSING DRIVE

The Federal Government has announced plans to create over two million jobs nationwide through the Renewed Hope Social Housing Program, a key initiative aimed at reducing Nigeria’s housing deficit while creating economic opportunities for citizens.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, during a working session with the House of Representatives Committee on Housing and Habitat at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

Dangiwa described the Renewed Hope Social Housing Program as a major effort to provide accessible housing for low-income earners, vulnerable groups, the unemployed, and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). He revealed that 100 housing units will be constructed in each of the 774 local government areas across the country.

THE SOCIAL DEMOCRACTIC PARTY EXPELS EL-RUFAI, IMPOSES 30 YEAR SUSPENSION

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, declaring him ineligible to associate with the party in any capacity for the next 30 years.

In a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Aiyenigba, the SDP alleged that El-Rufai falsely claimed party membership, disrupted internal processes, and sought to destabilize the party through illegal and deceptive political tactics.

The NWC, according to Aiyenigba, acted after investigating El-Rufai’s contentious claims of membership and what it termed backdoor political dealings that have disrupted party cohesion and threatened its core principles.

NIMC DENIES INVOLVEMENT IN SELING BVN AND NIN TO FINTECH FIRMS

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has strongly condemned reports about people allegedly selling personal data, including Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) and National Identity Numbers (NIN) to fintech companies.

In a statement issued by the Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, the Commission emphasized that it would not be held liable for the unauthorized sharing of personal data.

He also stated that NIMC wishes to clear that it will not be held responsible for any personal information shared by an individual either directly or through a proxy for the purpose of financial gain or inducement.

THAILAND AND CAMBODIA REACH IMMEDIATE EASEFIRE DEAL

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced that Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to an immediate ceasefire in a bid to end the border clashes between the two countries.

The acting Prime Minister of Thailand, Phumtham Wechayachai, and Cambodia’s Prime Minister, Hun Manet, held talks at the Malaysian Prime minister’s official house in Putrajaya.


The emergency meeting was aimed at putting a stop to the escalating conflict, which has claimed at least 35 lives and displaced more than 270,000 persons in both Thailand-Cambodia border.

THE SUPER FALCONS ARE SCHEDULED TO ARRIVE IN NIGERIA

After emerging victorious in the WAFCON 2024 final with a win over Morocco, the Super Falcons are set to arrive in Abuja for a celebration ahead of their meeting with President Bola Tinubu. The team sealed a record-extending 10th WAFCON title, reaffirming their dominance in African women’s football.


An open-roof bus parade has been confirmed, with the players and technical crew scheduled to tour strategic routes across the capital.


President Tinubu has also expressed excitement over their return, saying he cannot wait to receive the Super Falcons and has assured them of celebrations upon their arrival.

THE NIGERIAN HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES PROPOSES ALL ELECTIONS TO BE HELD ON A SINGLE DAY IN 2027

The House of Representatives has proposed a single day to conduct the five elections coming up in 2027


If the proposal for the bill goes through, INEC will be allowed, under the new Electoral Act, to run all major elections, presidential, legislative, and gubernatorial and local on the same day.


The Electoral Act Repeal and Re-enactment Bill 2025 seeks to replace the Electoral Act No. 13 of 2022 and regulate elections at the federal, state, and FCT levels, has successfully passed Second Reading in the House of Representatives.

IBADAN SET TO WELCOME LADOJA AS THE NEW OLUBADAN

The Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, is set to assume the throne in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, shortly after the end of the 21-day mourning period for Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.


The 21-day mourning period was in line with the ancient tradition of Ibadanland.Oba Olakulehin, who had recently celebrated his 90th birthday in June, passed away just two days later.


Oba Ladoja is also expected to make his first public appearance in Ibadan later this week.

Federal Government moves to repatriate stranded Nigerians in Central African Republic

The Federal Government has initiated efforts to rescue and repatriate a group of Nigerian workers stranded in the central African republic

This was following a viral video showing the distressed individuals abandoned in the Bambari region, about 850km from the country’s capital, Bangui.

In a statement on Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, the government confirmed that officials of the Nigerian Mission in the Central African Republic have successfully established contact with the affected nationals.

According to the statement signed by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Embassy of Nigeria in Bangui is actively liaising with local authorities to ensure the safety, welfare, and swift repatriation of the victims.
