Gridlock on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway As Property Owners Block Road Over Ibadan Circular Project Compensation

Meanwhile, commuters and motorists were stranded for several hours around the Academic Area axis of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, following a massive protest by property owners along the corridor of the ongoing construction Ibadan circular road.

The protesters, made up of landlords and residents, blocked the expressway to express their dissatisfaction over what they described as the government’s failure to respond to a seven-day ultimatum issued over alleged demolition threats and inadequate compensation for affected houses.

The protest grounded many businesses in the area as workers and students heading to school, as well as travelers and commuters within Ibadan and neighbouring states, were delayed, with commercial vehicles forced to turn back or take alternative routes.

A leader of the protesting house owners said the action became necessary after years of unfulfilled promises and insensitivity to their plight. Meanwhile, motorists have called on both state and federal governments to quickly resolve the issue to prevent further disruption along the busy Ibadan-Lagos Expressway.
