FUBARA TOLD TO SEEK AMENDS, AVOID POWER STRUGGLE

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has advised Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to seek reconciliation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, rather than engage in prolonged political confrontation.
Speaking during an interview on Tuesday, Fayose said Governor Fubara, like many political leaders, rose to power through the support and influence of others, stressing the need for humility and gratitude in leadership.
According to Fayose, the ongoing rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor has continued to fuel political instability in Rivers State. He urged the governor to prioritise peace and reconciliation, noting that political loyalty and mentorship should not be disregarded.
Drawing examples from other states, Fayose pointed to Kogi State, where he said the governor has maintained stability by showing humility and respect for political benefactors. He also recalled advice he gave to his own successor in Ekiti State, encouraging cooperation rather than conflict with predecessors.
Fayose warned Governor Fubara against challenging Wike’s influence in Rivers politics, describing Wike as the political “001” of the state. He said while Fubara holds constitutional office, it is not his place to openly contest Wike’s leadership status, adding that the political realities are widely known.
The former governor appealed directly to Fubara to make genuine efforts at reconciliation, stressing that apologies made merely to ease tension are different from sincere remorse. He cautioned that political allies urging confrontation may abandon the governor if the situation worsens.
Fayose also referenced recent impeachment threats against Fubara, noting that such actions could have permanently ended his political career. He said the intervention of President Bola Tinubu helped stabilise the situation, urging Fubara to learn from past political experiences and avoid repeating mistakes.
He concluded by calling on Governor Fubara to respect both constitutional responsibilities and political mentorship, urging him to “climb down from his high horse,” seek peace, and acknowledge the role Wike played in his emergence as governor.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State House of Assembly has accused Governor Fubara of gross misconduct, including the demolition of the Assembly complex, alleged extra-budgetary spending, and defiance of a Supreme Court ruling on legislative autonomy.
The impeachment move comes amid the prolonged feud between Wike and Fubara, a crisis that has unsettled Rivers State politics since late 2023. The dispute is believed to centre on control of the state’s political structure, including the Peoples Democratic Party and the State Assembly.
While lawmakers have denied acting on Wike’s influence, reports indicate that President Tinubu has stepped in to mediate the conflict.

Trump Threatens 25% Tariffs on Nations Trading With Iran

President Donald Trump has warned thatcountries doing business with Iran would face a tariff rate of twenty-five per cent on any trade with the United States.
Trump’s threat is coming as Washington weighs a response to the situation in Iran which is seeing its biggest anti-government protests in years.
Although there was no official documentation from the White House of the policy on its website, nor information about the legal authority Trump would use to impose the tariffs, or whether they would be aimed at all of Iran’s trading partners but Trump confirmed the claims on Truth Social without providing any further detail.

G7, Global Partners Meet in Washington to Cut Rare Earth Dependence on China

Finance ministers from the G7 and other major economies have met in Washington on ways to reduce dependence on rare earths from China, including setting a price floor and new partnerships to build up alternative supplies.
The meeting, convened by United States Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, included finance ministers from G7 members Japan, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and the U.S. as well as officials from Australia, Mexico, South Korea and India.
Meanwhile, Japanese Finance Minister, Satsuki Katayama told reporters that there was broad agreement on the need to swiftly reduce reliance on China for rare earths.

Political analysts say that while victory for Museveni is all but certain, having won all six presidential elections he contested, the road ahead is clouded by uncertainty, with the president starting to show signs of frailty.

Bandits Kill Five in Otukpo, Including Former PDP Assembly Candidate

Away from Oyo State, bandits have killed five persons including a House of Assembly candidate for Otukpo-Akpa State Constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general election, Igbabe Ochi, in a fresh attack in Otukpo local government area of Benue State.
Local sources confirmed that the community has been singled out by suspected herdsmen for attacks, following the killing of 13 persons on April 15, 2025, and another attack that claimed three more lives in May 2025.
When contacted, the President of Otobi Community Development Association, John Anyebe, confirmed the attack, lamenting over the killing of his people. However, the Benue State Police Command is yet to react to the incident as of press time.

Oyo Government Orders Aleshinloye Traders to Vacate Ahead of Market Demolition

Oyo State Government has issued a notice to traders at Aleshinloye Market, Ibadan, to vacate their shops ahead of a planned demolition and renovation exercise.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s directive affects over 4,000 traders, many of whom say they are struggling to understand the implications of losing their businesses within a short timeframe. Several traders disclosed that they invested heavily in acquiring their shops, with some paying up to ₦2 million, and now face the challenge of securing alternative locations reportedly costing between ₦20 million and ₦27 million.

With Nigeria’s current economic situation, affected traders many of whom are widows, widowers and family breadwinners are appealing to the state government to reconsider the timeline and grant them adequate time to relocate before the demolition begins.
As the deadline approaches, tension remains high within the market, with traders expressing fears over the possible loss of their livelihoods and businesses.
Many are calling on the government to adopt a more humane approach that balances infrastructural development with the welfare of the traders. Observers say the outcome of this situation will test the Makinde administration’s commitment to inclusive development and could have far-reaching consequences for the traders, their families, and the wider Aleshinloye community

Eyesan, Adedeji Seal Collaboration on National Revenue Drive

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) have taken major steps toward enhancing revenue collection for the Federation. 
 This decision was taken when the Commission Chief Executive, NUPRC, Mrs Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, visited the Chairman, NRS, Mr. Zacc Adedeji, at the corporate headquarters of the apex tax agency in Abuja. 
The NUPRC Head, Media and Strategic Communication, Eniola Akinkuotu, disclosed in a press statement, that both parties agreed to work more closely in the interest of the country in order to meet the revenue target set by the government.

Presidential Air Fleet Spends 55% on VP’s Plane Repairs

The Federal Government has allocated a cumulative ten point six billion naira for the overhaul of engines on the aircraft assigned to Vice President Kashim Shettima over a three-year period.
According to an analysis of appropriation bills from 2024 to 2026, the aircraft received the highest single allocation among all engine overhaul projects in the Presidential Air Fleet, accounting for 55 per cent of the nineteen point two billion naira total spent on engine maintenance across the fleet under the President Bola Tinubu administration.
Presidency officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to news correspondents, said the repeated technical failures may have prompted urgent maintenance, which in turn drove the escalating budget allocations. Similarly, the Spokesman to the President, Bayo Onanuga, argued the allocation would save Nigeria huge maintenance and fuel costs, running into millions of dollars yearly.
