Olubadan-Designate Ladoja Backs Bill to Make Yoruba Language Compulsory in Oyo Schools
Olubadan Designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has announced plans to propose a bill that would make the Yoruba language a compulsory subject in all schools across Oyo State.
Oba Rashidi Ladoja made this statement while receiving a delegation from the Center for Yoruba Language at the University of Ibadan.
During the meeting with the team from the Center for Yoruba Language, Oba Rashidi Ladoja expressed concern about the increasing number of Yoruba parents raising their children primarily using the English language instead of their native tongue.
Earlier, Professor Kola Owolabi, the Chairman of the Center for Yoruba Language, urged Yoruba parents not to deprive their children of the beauty of the Yoruba language and culture by favoring English.
Professor Kola Owolabi noted that the center was at the Olubadan’s residence to seek the monarch’s support in restoring the lost glory of Yorubaland’s culture and traditions.
