Reps Open Talks on Electoral, Judicial Reforms in Ongoing Constitution Review

The House of Representatives has opened a national public hearing on amendments to the 1999 Constitution, with key issues including state policing, special legislative seats for women, and electoral and judicial reforms.
Presiding over the session, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who chairs the Special Committee on Constitution Review, said the constitution must remain a living document that strengthens institutions, deepens federalism, and promotes justice and accountability.

The hearing, which follows zonal consultations across the six geopolitical zones, is expected to consolidate citizens’ views and shape the next stage of the amendment process
