Senate Approves Bill to Establish Nigeria Mines Rangers Service to Curb Illegal Mining.

The Senate has approved a bill to establish the Nigeria Mines Rangers Service, a special agency that will help tackle illegal mining and improve security in mining communities across the country.

The decision followed the adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals Development, chaired by Senator Ekong Samson, during plenary.

The bill, sponsored by Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, seeks to protect mining sites, regulate operations, and safeguard host communities affected by illegal mining.

Senators who contributed to the debate described the creation of the Mines Rangers Service as a welcome step toward addressing the growing cases of illegal mining and insecurity in resource-rich areas.
