Lagos Assembly Receives Formal Request from Sanwo-Olu to Present N4.2trn 2026 Budget

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is set to present a proposed four-point-two trillion naira budget for the 2026 fiscal year to the Lagos State House of Assembly, following the legislature’s confirmation that it has received a formal request from the governor to schedule a date for the presentation.

The Assembly announced that it had received an official communication from the governor asking lawmakers to fix a suitable day for him to lay the 2026 Appropriation Bill before them.

The letter, read on the floor by the Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko, formally set in motion the legislative process leading to the budget presentation.

At the time of filing this report, the house has yet to fix a date for the presentation.

Gridlock on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway As Property Owners Block Road Over Ibadan Circular Project Compensation

Meanwhile, commuters and motorists were stranded for several hours around the Academic Area axis of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, following a massive protest by property owners along the corridor of the ongoing construction Ibadan circular road.

The protesters, made up of landlords and residents, blocked the expressway to express their dissatisfaction over what they described as the government’s failure to respond to a seven-day ultimatum issued over alleged demolition threats and inadequate compensation for affected houses.

The protest grounded many businesses in the area as workers and students heading to school, as well as travelers and commuters within Ibadan and neighbouring states, were delayed, with commercial vehicles forced to turn back or take alternative routes.

A leader of the protesting house owners said the action became necessary after years of unfulfilled promises and insensitivity to their plight. Meanwhile, motorists have called on both state and federal governments to quickly resolve the issue to prevent further disruption along the busy Ibadan-Lagos Expressway.

Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead a delegation to Kebbi State to convey the Federal Government’s solidarity and deliver a message of reassurance to the families of abducted pupils.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reiterated his directive to security agencies to move swiftly to rescue the schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

He assured Nigerians that the children would be brought home safely.

Oyo Police Intensify Security on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Amidst Misinformation Spread

The Oyo State Police Command has strengthened security along major highways in response to the rising spread of misinformation about safety on the Lagos–Ibadan expressway.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Osifeso Adewale, the Command has observed a troubling increase in false claims and video clips alleging abductions and dangerous activities around the Onigari axis.

To counter the concerns, the Oyo State Police Command, says it is working closely with the Ogun State Police Command and the Ogun–Oyo Joint Security Committee, to intensify security measures across major routes entering and leaving the state, including increased patrol visibility, intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations, and improved surveillance in border communities. The Command therefore urged members of the public to refrain from sharing unverified information that could escalate fear or disrupt public order.

African Democratic Congress Positions Itself as Credible Alternative to APC with New Secretariat.

The African Democratic Congress, (ADC), has declared that the 2027 general elections will not be business as usual, as the party formally commissioned its new National Secretariat Complex in Abuja, in a bid to position itself as a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji  Abdullahi, described the new edifice as more than just an administrative building, stressing that the running of the party going forward would be anchored on character, courage, competence, discipline, and integrity. He also addressed issues around the new office.

Bolaji Abdullahi, noted that the ADC has successfully managed internal disagreements due to its emphasis on fairness and justice.

The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to ensure adequate protection for all children against sexual exploitation and abuse.

She made the call in Abuja while speaking at an event commemorating the World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse two thousand and twenty-five.

The First Lady urged parents and the wider society to prioritize the safety of children and make it a collective responsibility to protect them from any form of sexual abuse. She then called on government agencies, civil society, traditional and religious leaders, parents, and young people to work together to create a protective environment where children can feel safe to thrive

Tinubu Vows Education-Driven Reforms Will Empower Nigerian Youth with Global Skills.

In another development, President Bola Tinubu, has assured that his administration’s economic and institutional reforms are aimed at equipping Nigerian youths with globally competitive skills and securing their future through education-driven prosperity.

According to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who noted that youth issues would be central to conversations at the G-20 meetings this week. Tinubu added that the reform agenda spans multiple sectors to promote long-term synergy among stakeholders.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, said Nigeria’s youthful median age of seventeen informs many of the government’s policy decisions, while noting that reforms are designed to expand participation, skills development and growth opportunities for young people.

President Tinubu Orders Immediate Rescue of 25 Abducted Kebbi Schoolgirls.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has ordered security and intelligence agencies to immediately rescue the twenty-five female students abducted during an attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.

This came about after gunmen invaded the school, killing the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, while he attempted to shield the pupils, and whisking away the schoolgirls.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced the President’s directive for a high-level rescue operation, even as Kebbi Police spokesman, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said security operatives had launched a manhunt for the attackers. Likewise, the Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, has condemned the attack, calling on all security agencies to act in concert.
