Jonathan Eligible to Run in 2027, says Senior Advocate Monday Ubani

A senior advocate of Nigeria, Monday Ubani has stated the eligibility of the former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan to run for presidency in the two thousand and twenty-seven elections, following the judicial pronouncement of the court in two thousand and twenty-two and the nineteen ninety-nine constitution, stressing the ruling of court for the provisions of eight years for a person to run as president.

Ubani who stated this in an interview stated that Jonathan emergence in two thousand and ten was not from election but to complete a tenure, hence his eligibility and legality to run for presidency.

Recall that the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo warned that the People’s Democratic Party risks serious setbacks in its two thousand and twenty-seven presidential strategy if it opts for former President Goodluck Jonathan or former Anambra governor Peter Obi as its standard-bearer.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has described those calling for the removal of President Bola Tinubu from office as power-hungry politicians, who feel politically displaced.

Onanuga who spoke against the backdrop of comments of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai, that the President would not be re-elected in two thousand and twenty-seven, accused el-Rufai of being at the forefront of the campaign of removing the President, despite admitting in the past that four years was not enough for any leader to deliver meaningful changes.

He argued that Tinubu’s administration had achieved significant progress within two years, citing increased foreign reserves, growth in the stock market, harmonisation of the exchange rate, and four consecutive months of inflation decline. He added that states and local governments were receiving more funds from the centre, enabling them to embark on capital projects and create jobs.

Over 300 Evacuated After Ukrainian Drone Attack on Russia’s Rostov Region

More than three hundred people were evacuated from their apartments overnight following a Ukrainian drone attack on the capital of the Rostov region.

Although it did not say how many drones were detected, the Russian defense ministry said air defense units destroyed thirteen Ukrainian drones over the Rostov region overnight

Rostov region’s acting governor, Yuri Slyusar, said on the Telegram that an unexploded drone shell was discovered in one of the apartments, which came as a precaution, adding that three hundred and twenty residents of the building are being evacuated.

President Mahama Fires Chief Justice Following Committee’s Misconduct Findings

Ghana’s President John Mahama has fired the country’s Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo following a recommendation by an inquiry.

She had been on suspension since April after complaints were lodged against her in petitions by three individuals, with the president setting up a five-member committee to investigate.

The commission found that grounds of stated misbehavior had been established and recommended her removal from office according to the presidency.

However, Ms Torkornoo dismissed the allegations as unfounded and politically motivated, but the presidency insisted that she was required to act in accordance with the committee’s recommendations.

Oyo Broadcasters’ Body Celebrates Milestone, Invites New Members

The Association of Nigerian Broadcasters Oyo State chapter earlier this week celebrated its first-year anniversary, calling on broadcasters to be a part of the moving train.

The governor of the body, Opeyemi Ayanrinde in his speech stated that ANBROAD provides a platform for its members to excel in their chosen profession, reflecting on the challenges faced in their one year of establishment.

He emphasized that the body is open to receiving anyone who practices journalism in any form regardless of being recognized with a media house or not to be recognized with the association.

Also speaking with Dominion News correspondent, Seyifunmi Akinsanya, some stakeholders stated the mission and vision of ANBROAD, beckoning on all broadcasters who are not yet members of the association to join them.

Ibadan Residents Urge Caution, Reject Mobile Use on the Road

A growing number of residents in Ibadan have expressed their commitment to avoiding the use of mobile phones while driving, citing safety concerns and the risk of accidents.

In a conversation with a Dominion News correspondent, Richard Asaolu, several residents highlighted that using a phone while driving can cause serious distractions.

They stressed that such distractions often lead to accidents, potentially resulting in the loss of lives and property. Some also noted that phone usage impairs a driver’s focus and concentration on the road.

The residents however call on motorists and road users to exercise caution by refraining from using phones while driving, reminding the public of the penalties enforced by traffic wardens and other relevant authorities for such violations.

Authorities continue to advocate for safe driving practices across the city as part of efforts to reduce road accidents and promote responsible behavior on the roads.

Resident Doctors Issue Final 10-Day Ultimatum, Threaten Nationwide Strike

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors NARD issued a ten-day ultimatum to the Federal Government and relevant agencies to meet its welfare demands, warning that its members would embark on a nationwide strike if nothing is done before the deadline.

NARD recalled that in July it had given a three-week ultimatum, but in the interest of industrial harmony, the National Executive Council NEC extended it by another three weeks to allow the National Officers’ Committee engage with stakeholders.

According to reports, the E-NEC decided to extend the ultimatum by a final ten days to all relevant government agencies to meet their demands, adding that failure to comply would lead to a nationwide strike action.

Diaspora Remittances Surge After CBN Policy Overhaul

The Federal Government has expressed excitement over a sharp rise in diaspora remittances, which have surged to six hundred million dollars monthly in the past two months, according to figures from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said that the increase reflected renewed confidence in the Nigerian economy and recent CBN policy reforms.

She commended CBN Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, for reforms such as the introduction of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number and a more competitive exchange rate, which have encouraged Nigerians abroad to channel funds through official platforms.

Federal Government Launches Massive Youth Skills Initiative Under Renewed Hope Agenda

The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has said the Federal Government will empower seven million young Nigerians with digital and professional skills in the next two years.

Olawande announced this at the Strategic Youth Leadership Conference two thousand and twenty-five, organized by his ministry in collaboration with the National Defense College (NDC) to equip young Nigerians with contemporary knowledge in digital and professional education.

He assured the participants that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration is set to position Nigerians in the global talent of digital literacy by ensuring effective youth participation in the global digital economy in outlining key strategies for youth development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
